Today we continued the presentations on the different countries culture. We had China, and Ghana. Although with the news today centered around China they still find ways to celebrate their cultures and traditions. Ghanaian people also have big celebrations. They are centered around living off the land and using natural resources. They are creative people and can turn a plastic bottle or bowl into a nice necklace.

2/17/2020

I was not in class today due to ACT Prep. Although I missed this class the prep class was really interesting. We discussed tactics to help us better our score in the math portion of the ACT. We did many practice problems and got to work in groups. I do know that we will present tomorrow so I will like to see how that goes.

2/12/2020

We continued our research in our project. We were split into groups by our country’s continents. I was placed in Africa since my country was Egypt. We had to research 6 customs about our country. We also had to choose one that was interesting to us. I found that flowers were only brought to weddings and sick people. You weren’t supposed to no ring anyone flowers for any other occasion. That was interesting because here in the United States flowers are usually a staple for everything.

We were assigned a project on the different cultures. We selected different countries and that was the culture we are assigned. At first I wanted to get an easy country but now I have done some research and I’m happy with my country. I randomly selected Egypt and I knew not that much about the culture there. This project will expand my knowledge and help me learn and experience the other cultures. We also learned about the 7 things that make up a culture. Although I can not list them now I do know that these 7 things are essential to keep a  culture alive.

February 5, 2020

We started a new prompt today. I was unable to receive the lesson from Monday and Tuesday due to my absence from the class. The prompt today was about humorist and their purpose when they perform. Many people believe they perform to actually bring light to a situation. Many of the jokes or cartoons that are made be about real life situations that the artist has seen or experienced. There is also the possibility that they also want to bring their experiences to light and to have a good laugh at the situation. Although many people believe this others think that the performance or show is disrespectful. For instance, comedian, Kevin Hart has received backlash and was unable to host the 88th Oscars. Not due to something he did in the present but from a comedy show that he has done in the past. In this show he stated that he did not want his son to be “gay.” Many people thought he was being offensive and started to not like him. I don’t believe the joke was made to be offensive, just to shed light in a situation he had experienced.
